J.-C., au mont Kasion. Plus d’un millénaire durant, Péluse eut la dignité d’un véritable enjeu stratégique, économique et interculturel, celui de «clef de l’Égypte». Reviewed by Francesca: This is the only book of its kind currently in print. It provides a comprehensive survey of the earliest recorded voyages in Ancient Egypt from the Old Kingdom down into the Graeco-Roman and Christian times. The people who travelled, their accommodation facilities and the ways they travelled are illuminated in this fascinating book. Attention is also paid to the favoured sites, guidebooks and the behavioural standards of tourists. It is heavy in information and is definitely for the interested scholar or dedicated student. Although the book has no bibliography or further reading section and it contains very few illustrations, it does have many references in the notes at the back of book.
