From the book cover: Medical analysis of the mummified bodies of the pharaohs has been described in many books. However this volume shows that the same techniques can be used to study ordinary Egyptians as well. The twenty-one papers in this volume were presented at a British Museum conference in 1990 by leading authorities in paleopathology, molecular archaeology, archaeobotany and archaeozoology. From the diseases that plagued Egyptians to the potential that ancient DNA analysis offers for recreating family relationships, this volume shows the extraordinary potential modern techniques for revealing ancient lives.

Before the discovery of the tomb of Tutankhamun in 1922, the greatest find ever made in the Valley of the Kings was the 3,000-year-old tomb of Yuya (Iouiya) and Tjuyu (Touiyou), parents-in-law of King Amenophis III of the 18th Dynasty. The tomb contained their wonderfully preserved mummies, lying within magnificent coffins and surrounded by a gorgeous array of palace furniture and funerary equipment. This book containing the excavator s official reports on this important find was originally published in 1907-1908.

From the book cover: Although European tradition has spread across the globe, its roots lie in a tiny little corner of the world : the countries surrounding the Mediterranean, in particular the cultures of Egypt, Mesopotamia, Greece, and Rome. What we know of these civilizations comes to us from contemporary written sources and excavations of ancient sites. This study covers the history of the ancient Near East, Greece, and Rome within the framework of a short narrative history, focusing on the social, political and cultural processes that have influenced Western civilization.
