From the book cover: This book examines the funerary monuments of the kings of Egypt, from the decline of the royal pyramids at the end of the Middle Kingdom down to the Classical accounts describing the tomb of the last Macedonian ruler, Cleopatra VII. The chronological narrative looks at the different elements of late Egyptian tombs; both the subterranean burial places, often superbly decorated, and the massive temples where spirits could receive offerings and commune with the dead. The decoration of these little-known monuments is described, together with a summary of their most important contents. From the construction of these ornate tombs, to the later plundering of royal sepulchres, this is the complete guide to death and burial in New Kingdom Egypt.
